Meet an Expert: The Center for Forensic Economic Studies

The Center for Forensic Economic Studies

The Center for Forensic Economic Studies (CFES) is a group of economists and statisticians who offer litigation support, with a focus on research and testimony regarding economic damages. With offices in Philadelphia and Washington D.C., their team of Ph.D. experts specialize in business valuation, accounting, human resources, pension issues and information technology.

President and Senior Economist, Chad Staller, works with both plaintiff and defense counsel analyzing possible losses of plaintiffs who include state and federal employees, business owners, and children. He also provides his expertise in commercial matters.

The CFES specializes in three types of litigation support in lawsuits that involve personal injury and wrongful death, employment damages, employment discrimination, commercial damages and business valuations. They offer:

  • Affirmative damages reports
  • Critiques of opposing expert analyses
  • Consultation on the deposition and cross-examination of opposing economic expert

Their ‘notable cases‘ offers readers an introduction to the types of cases in which they are retained as economic and statistical expert witnesses or consultants. Examples include a class action seeking $2 billion in economic damages calculated in the plaintiffs’ expert report. The CFES analysis identified that the opposing expert witness’ calculations were based on faulty data.

CFES offers links to a number of publications on topics ranging from economic damages in personal injury cases, to forensic economic analysis in employment litigation, to statistical analyses. Articles on hedonic damages and expert testimony are also available on their site.
