[EVENT] Massive Reforms in Japan

With the Socialist led Coalition in power, Prime Minister Tetsu Katayama has taken this opportunity to begin passing large amounts of socially socialist legislature.

Labor Standards Act of 1947

This act shall greatly expand the rights of the workers, in particular women. It provides a mandatory leave for women for five weeks during the postnatal period for maternity leave, allowing the child and mother to bond during these important times, as well as ensuring the child receives proper care. In addition the act ensures women may not be terminated for thirty days after their child is born. The law also provides equal pay for equal work, ensuring that wage gouging may not occur.

The Employment Security Act of 1947

This law expands the authority of the government in operating a system of employment on a more democratic and generally broader basis. This law also abolishes the labor boss system, deeming it as depriving lower class workers of their constitutional rights.

The Child Welfare Act of 1947

This act shall extend the rights of minors in Japan, specifically those who are abused, neglected, and abandoned. The act shall provide the proper privacy for children who are born out of wedlock, shall begin the proper programs for both child and mother health care, provide prenatal care, and outlawed the use of minors in dangerous work environments and their indentured servitude. This shall ensure the next generation of Japan shall be cared for properly, so that when they mature they may do their best to improve the nation as well.

The Law for the Elimination of Excessive Economic Concentration

With this law, the Socialist Coalition has provided for their greatest step forward. The law clearly states that any company deemed "Monopolistic" by the government will be subject to dissolution into several other companies. The law is clearly directed toward the Zaibatsu corporations. With this law, Prime Minister Katayama has also promised that a companion piece to this law shall be passed in January.
