Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division Statistics

DOL WHD
The US Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division offers a statistics page of aggregate enforcement data as part of their mission to provide more ‘open government’ and to be an agency experienced as accountable and responsive.

The tables reflect data from 2004-2013 regarding enforcement of the following acts:

  • Fair Labor Standards Act back wages, 2009-2013, including the number of case violations for minimum wage and overtime, the amount of back wages and the number and percent of employees receiving back and FLSA wages
  • Back wages for workers in low-wage industries, 2001-2013, with more detailed industry-specific statistics from 2009-2013, including the agriculture, restaurant, garment manufacturing, health care and hotel industries
  • Child labor enforcement statistics, 2000-2013
  • Family and Medical Leave Act Enforcement from 1997 to 2013, including the nature of the complaint and percent of ‘no-violation’ cases

The years of available data appear to correspond with the Wage and Hour Division transitioning to a new data management system in 1999.

These tables reflect both current and historical data to make the agency more transparent, accountable, and responsive. The DOL suggests visiting their Enforcement Database for data and statistics on a case level basis.
