Allegations of McDonald’s wage and hour violations featured on ‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

Wage and hour violation allegations may impact an employer’s reputation even before expert witnesses are hired to analyze and calculate potential damages. But few employers receive as much attention for those allegations as McDonald’s recently did on HBO’s ‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’.

John Oliver mocked the company’s recent street campaign in which questions about about McDonald’s products were collected from consumers casually walking down the street. Mythbusters star Grant Imahara then ‘investigates’ the questions revealing only flattering information about McDonald’s.

John Oliver pokes fun at the pseudo-science marketing by making his own satirical version of the campaign. In a mock-ad, McDonald’s is asked about low wages, and the following questions about the current wage and hour violation allegations:

“Why are there currently seven lawsuits against McDonald’s and franchise operators alleging wage theft? And why do these allegations include: failure to pay overtime, forcing off-the-clock work and engaging in a practice of managerial time records?”
